ABOUT GILLIAM'S COMMUNITY GARDEN

Hi! We're Prentiss Gilliam III ("Farmer P") and Jasann (Lovey) Gilliam, and we run Gilliam's Community Farm! It all started in 2012 when Farmer P planted me (Jasann) a garden. I ate from the harvest for 2 seasons and discovered that I saved money while eating more nutritious food. That's when we decided we wanted to scale to the community and help others do the same. So, we bought 2 acres of land in Southwest Atlanta. In 2016, we were able to expand another acre.

Gilliam's Community Garden is unique in that we don’t share plots. Instead, we have formed a partnership with APS in 2016 and we currently have partnered with JenCare Senior Medical Facility  in an effort to help the community through education i.e. teaching local students math & science through farming and workshops for our seniors on healthy food preparation . Our farm experience is especially tailored to the educational needs of school groups and senior centers.  We strive to make learning fun and hands-on so that what students learn on the farm will stay with them. These are fun and engaging lessons for students and seniors; they learn about plant biology, how to distinguish good bugs from bad bugs, and how many plants can fit in a raised bed.
